Welcome to the ’80s, Jim! I sent a card which is more my speed, but Amy said I had to add something here, too. I remember the day you were baptized. You were to be named Austin James. Aunt Julia was your sponsor and carried you to the minister. When the minister asked the baby’s name, she looked at Mom and said James Austin! Either she thought that was a better name or she forgot. Anyway you’ve been Jim ever since!

So many memories of you as a boy — feeding chickens, milking — then your success in music. The folks were so proud! It was always a thrill to hear about your concerts and your travels. A special memory is our trip into New York City during the transit strike. You said you’d never seen the streets so empty! Other great trips, too. And now you have this special London trip with your girls. May you have a most happy birthday!

Love,

Mary
