Uncle Jim,
On behalf of all the Smedstad’s especially my mother, Elaine, Sue and myself I wanted to wish you all the best as you cross another significant threshold in life with the celebration of your 80’s birthday. Sue and I appreciate so much the dedication and kindness that you and Ruth have shown to Elaine with your numerous visits and regular correspondence. Although it is sometimes difficult for her to express it I know that this contact and communications has been very important to her especially with her distance from immediate family. I, personally, have valued your advice and counsel as I mentally prepare for hip surgery and only wish I had your gumption and drive to get the process completed and move on. Anna admires very much the ability of you and Ruth to engage in significant worldwide travel and wishes she could get me to be as enthusiastic about it as you guys.
You’ve always been my “favorite uncle” (and by the way the only one still around) and I hope you continue to enjoy life and I look forward to our regular updates and discussions.
